Morocco From Tanger

7 Days Northern Morocco From Tanger

Tangier is the perfect place to start your journey in Morocco. It is easy to reach and has many historical buildings.

Besides Tangier, this trip will take you to some amazing destinations in northern Morocco: Asilah, Volubilis, Meknes and Fes.

This itinerary is a great choice for travelers who want to explore Morocco from Spain in a short period of time. It combines a mix of history, culture, shopping, and stunning scenery.

Marrakech

Known for its exotic charm, traditional lifestyle, and rich history, Marrakech is a must-visit city in Morocco. This dynamic red mud city has something for everyone – from stunning attractions to relaxing hammams.

In my experience, One of the most popular landmarks of Marrakech is its Medina or old town which is a picturesque collage of narrow lanes, traditional Moroccan houses, and huge walls. It is here that one can shop for knick-knacks, souvenirs, dresses, shoes, and homewares.

Another attraction to see in Marrakech is its souks or traditional bazaars. These are an amazing showcase of traditional Moroccan products, and the best way to pick up some souvenirs!

You can explore the souks by yourself or hire a guide. Here, you will be able to witness the process of creating artisanal crafts like metalwork and leather. The souks are organized by their respective crafts. Some of them include Babouche or shoe souk, El-Attarine or perfume and spices souk, and Cherratine or leather souk.

Tangier

Tangier is an excellent base for your Northern Morocco trip and a great gateway to the country. Located over the Strait of Gibraltar, Tangier is a gritty, authentic city and offers a good introduction to life in Morocco.

You can easily get to Tangier by flight, ferry or train and bus from other Moroccan cities. The airport is a short taxi ride from the old medina walls and is well served by Supratours coaches making it easy to travel onwards to Marrakech, Fes, Casablanca and beyond.

When you visit Tangier, you should definitely try and see the medina. This working-class neighborhood is lively and filled with shops and street vendors, making it a great place to spend a day exploring.

You’ll also want to check out the Plage Municipale, a broad crescent beach that’s perfect for a stroll on a hot day. While the water quality isn’t as good as other urban beaches in Europe, it’s well-maintained and can be a great way to cool off after spending the day exploring the medina.

Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen is a very beautiful town that is located in the mountains of the Rif region. It is considered as a destination for nature lovers, as it has plenty of trails that are ideal for walking and enjoying the stunning beauty of the Rif Mountains.

You can explore the city by foot and enjoy the colorful streets lined with blue walls and traditional houses. This is one of the most picturesque places in Morocco and has a very rich cultural heritage.

While in the town, don’t miss visiting the Kasbah Museum where you can learn more about the history of this beautiful city. The museum also has an ethnographic collection that you can admire.

Another attraction in Chefchaouen is the Cascades d’Akchour waterfall. This is a small but beautiful waterfall that is nestled in the woods near the medina. It is a great place to sit, relax and enjoy some mint tea.

Travelers can either take a bus from Tangier to Chefchaouen or take a private taxi. The latter is the most convenient way to travel to the town as it offers a comfortable ride.

Fes

Fez is one of Morocco’s most fascinating cities, full of awe-inspiring Marinid architecture, authentic madrasas (Islamic schools), and extraordinary mosques. It’s a city that deserves at least two days to explore fully, so plan ahead and follow our itinerary below for an unforgettable visit to this UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Fes el Bali is huge and can be overwhelming, so you’ll need to take your time to get around. If you don’t have your own car, it’s best to hire a local driver for the day to help you navigate the city’s maze-like streets.

For an incredible insight into the history of this fascinating city, visit the Bou Inania Madrasa, a 14th-century religious building that was once a school. The interior is filled with marble courtyards, intricate wood carvings, and endless mosaic tilework in a variety of greens.

Another must-see is the Merenid Tombs, ruins of an ancient necropolis that once towered above Fes. Though not much remains, the ruins offer the perfect view of Fes el Bali at sunset.
